On Sunday evening I had the pleasure of seeing a community come together to help grant a wish to a very deserving young girl. Out of respect for Jessica and her family her medical condition is confidential. The Make-A-Wish foundation contacted me to see if I would be a part of Jessica's wish. I read over her story and called the foundation in the morning. Absolutely I wanted to be a part of this.
When she was 15 years old she missed her Quinceañera due to a kidney transplant. Among her mother's walls are generations of photos with her young woman celebrating their Quinceañera's. Jessica wanted to be on her mom's wall along with the other young women.
Bellacara, Bazzak Hair Salon, Reston Limousine, Blue Bunny Ice cream all came together to help give back a memory that is very dear to Jessica and her family. When she first got out of her limo she was very shy. But into the shoot I loved seeing her giggle looking off in the direction of her mom and sister. I could tell Jessica felt beautiful.
Talking with the coordinator who stayed by Jessica's side throughout the entire day I really got a sense they really cared immensely for each child they grant a wish to. Having met Jessica and seeing all the volunteers surrounding her I was reminded that just a simple act of kindness changes a life. I know Jessica will cherish her day for a long time.
When I got in the car and headed out of Alexandria that dang old Miranda Lambert song "all kinds of kinds" came on and I just sat waiting for it to finish and thought "that was awesome".
If you have anything to give back to the community I encourage you to do it. Even a small bit of giving goes a lifetime :)
Thank you to Blue Bunny Ice Cream for funding the wish and to Erin and Grace at Make-A-Wish Foundation for coordinating all of it. You all are wonderful!
